I recently came across an interesting topic about kintsugi or kintsukuroi, a Japanese technique for repairing cracked pottery with a special varnish mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. Somehow resulting in a more appealing object than the original by simply highlighting the cracks with premium materials.
Kintsugi — Embracing Cracks
The philosophy behind this technique is quite fascinating indeed—certainly more than just repairing stuff by gluing broken parts together, or merely prolonging the usage of an object instead of replacing it with a new one—it reminds us about the value of facing any sort of cracks or problems within our lives, rather than escaping. It tells us to recognize that those problems make us who we are; no matter how challenging they may seem.
